The research team will analyse the selected concepts, themes and draft teaching philosophy statements to identify commonalities and differences in the selected concepts/themes and teaching philosophy statements of educators from different demographic groups, and explore how teaching philosophy statements align with national and international teaching frameworks.
Your participation in this research project is entirely voluntary. If you agree to participate you do have to complete the demographic data questions, but you do not have to select any teaching concepts, develop any themes or develop a draft teaching philosophy statement unless you wish to do so.
Your decision to participate or not participate will in no way impact upon your current or future relationship with QUT or the researchers. As the data collected will be removed of personally identifying information, once it has been submitted it will not be possible to withdraw from the research project.
It is expected that this research project will not directly benefit you. However, it may benefit the broader community of those involved in university teaching, by expanding knowledge of teaching philosophies. The research team will make the details of research publications resulting from this project available on this website. If you would like to be advised when research from this project is published, please email teaching.advantage@qut.edu.au.
There are minimal risks associated with your participation in this research project. These include slight inconvenience associated with completion of demographic data questions.
All comments and responses will be treated confidentially unless required by law, or regulatory or monitoring bodies, such as the ethics committee. The names of individual persons and email addresses are collected only for the purposes of communicating any app-related information, validating your login details, and allowing you to be sent a copy of the concepts and themes you selected and the teaching philosophy statement you drafted within the app. Names and email addresses will not be used as part of the research project.
We recommend that you do not include personally identifying information in the text of your draft teaching philosophy statement (e.g. your name or names of your colleagues). However if you do so, any personally identifying information will be removed before the statement is used in the research project.
All data collected as part of this research project will be stored securely as per QUT’s Management of Research Data policy.
